Dear Friend of Herzog Hospital,
We are very proud to present to you a feature article that appeared in this past weekend’s Jerusalem Post. The article celebrates 130 years of Herzog Hospital, from its beginnings in 1894 as Ezrath Nashim Hospital, to The Herzog Medical Centre of 2024.

Founded in 1894 by a women’s association called Ezrath Nashim (Help to Women), the initial small hospital was dedicated to the improvement of medical problems of women, focusing on gynaecology and especially childbirth, as the death rate of pregnant and postnatal women was high.
However, the founders soon realized that a completely different field of medicine was even more ignored: that of treating the mentally ill.
Thus, within a dozen years, Ezrat Nashim opened the first psychiatric hospital in the Middle East, accommodating a large number of patients and a significant staff.

The article tells about the historic beginnings of Herzog 130 years ago, its current essential activities, and its plans for significant expansion in the future – along with interviews with those who make these activities and plans a reality in their daily quest to aid Israel’s most vulnerable patients.
